Who We Are, How We Operate

The Lynden Fire Department

The Lynden Fire Department is a combination volunteer/career fire and emergency medical response service provided to the Citizens of Lynden with pride and commitment since 1910 covering a geographical area of 6.5 square miles. There are about 25 members on our department.
The Fire Chief is the Director of our Department and the Captain serves as our Training Officer.

The Fire Chief, Captain, 3 career firefighters and the secretary are fulltime paid employees of the City. Though membership in the department is on a volunteer basis, our members are on call paid responders.

We are divided into three shifts; Green, Red, and Blue and each shift has a Lieutenant. One shift is assigned to covering each day on a rotating basis. Monthly duty calendars are distributed the Wednesday prior to a new month beginning. The days you are assigned duty you are required to respond to all calls between the hours of 6 P.M and 6 A.M. We train every Wednesday evening from 7-10 P.M. and training is mandatory.

The 25 or so Responders on our Department attend training at the State Fire Academy later becoming Firefighter I certified with the option of becoming Firefighter II certified. All Department members must be State certified as an Emergency Medical Technician. The City of Lynden covers the cost of these trainings with the expectation of at least one year's service following certification.

The members of the Lynden Fire Department have the option of joining the Lynden Firefighters Association. Our Association is a benevolent organization that supports its members in time of need and members of our community in need. We offer scholarships to young people interested in the emergency response field. We volunteer at many of our community events including parades and festivals. The Association also sponsors an annual dinner to honor all those volunteers and their spouses who have retired from the department.

MISSION STATEMENT
