Baby Sitter Class Photo Gallery |
The Lynden
Fire Department
offers a class that prepares
young people to work as babysitters.
The babysitting class
was started about 6 years ago in 2001 and is now headed up and
organized by FF/EMT Lisa DeKoster. The class is sponsored by the
Lynden Firefighters Association, Lynden Lions Club, and the Lynden
Kiwanas Club.
The course, which is held in the Spring and the Fall every year, is
very intense. It is held over 3 consecutive Saturdays from 8:30 am -
4:30pm. The students learn a HUGE variety of skills, such as:
Certification in First Aid/CPR, how to use fire extinguishers,
treating babysitting as a business, and general home safety. There
is a LOT of information, but we try to make it as fun as possible
for the students. |
There is no need to
bring lunches or snacks as they are provided for all 3 Saturdays.
In order for a child to participate, he/she must be 12 years old by
the end of that year. Due to our sponsors, the cost is kept
reasonably low: $25.00 per student. The child is asked to commit to
all 3 classes and upon completion of all those classes, they will
receive their American Heart First Aid/CPR card, certificate of
completion, and a picture ID card. They will receive those items on
the last Saturday of the class when a small graduation that family
and friends are invited to is held.
To sign your child up, stop by the Fire Station Monday-Friday, 8-5
or call 360-354-4400. Registration is accepted up until the Friday
before the first Saturday class. |
